Coaching and positive psychology; in MAYA
Positive psychology can provide a unique scientific context for Kuching, while coaching is known as a functional branch in positive psychology. When Martin Seligman chose positive psychology as the subject of his tenure at the American Psychological Association, positive psychology became a new topic in psychology in 1998. According to Wikipedia’s definition, positive psychology is a branch of psychology that aims to apply practical understanding and has effective interventions to help live a satisfactory life and not merely treat mental illness.
Unlike traditional psychology, which focuses more on pathology (i.e. anxiety and depression), the purpose of positive psychology is to use the positive characteristics revealed in scientific research to strengthen people’s lives and happiness in the long run. For a better life, there are two ways for each individual: to separate life from negative ones and to reinforce positive ones that focus on the latter in positive psychology.
Coaching also focuses on positive cases and foresight, and the coaches who follow the principles of positive psychology have spontaneously focused on the strengths of references in order to strengthen everyday personal happiness.
Happiness emerges when one has meaning in life. Seligman believes that everyone can experience three types of happiness: *pleasure and satisfaction;* Visualization of strengths;* Meaning and purpose. Any kind of happiness is accompanied by positive emotions, but: “Your positive psychology, through pleasure and satisfaction, leads to virtue and the peaks of lasting realization: meaning and purpose.” Achieving lasting happiness requires that we enjoy traveling on the way to our designated and of course valuable destination. Therefore, happiness does not mean climbing to the summit of the mountain, and this does not mean a goalless climb: happiness means the experience of climbing to the summit.
