Autonomous vehicles: mapping of Dubai roads has started
The Municipality of Dubai has just launched a project to map the roads of the Emirate in order to prepare for the arrival of autonomous vehicles.
Vehicles similar to Google Cars are deployed on the streets to perform this operation.
The objective is to build a very accurate digital map that the computer equipped with Artificial Intelligence present in autonomous vehicles will be able to follow, without requiring human intervention. As a reminder, the Dubai government aims to deploy the first driverless taxis on the roads as part of a testing phase by next year.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President of the Emirates and Emir of Dubai, has set a goal that aims for 25% of trips to be made by driverless vehicles by 2030.
